Woman found tied, unconscious; hoax suspected

Posted: December 3, 2009 at 9:33 a.m.

— Muskogee County Sheriff Charles Pearson says he suspects a hoax after a Van Buren, Ark., woman was found tied up and unconscious in a ditch.

The woman was found Wednesday afternoon by passing motorists near the entrance to Greenleaf State Park. Pearson says the woman was conscious when deputies arrived and said she didn’t know what had happened.

The sheriff says the woman was found under similar circumstances about six months ago in Van Buren. Her name was not released.

He says she may have choked herself with pieces of a blanket and shreds of clothing and that he may refer her for mental treatment when the investigation is complete.
