PLANNING COMMISSION APPROVES ACADEMY STORE DEVELOPMENT

Northwest Arkansas is getting its first Academy Sports store.
The Rogers Planning Commission at its Tuesday meeting approved a large-scale development plan for Academy Sports + Outdoors at the northeast corner of Interstate 540 and Pleasant Grove Road.
Academy has Arkansas stores in Fort Smith, Little Rock and Sherwood.
Commissioners postponed consideration of a small strip mall south of Walgreens along Promenade Boulevard. The large-scaleplan is expected to be on the commission’s Dec. 15 agenda.
It was the first time since May the commission considered two large-scale development plans in a single month.
“I think you can say things are picking up some,” said Candy Anderson, assistant planner.
