FORT SMITH Police say a Fort Smith man has died at a hospital after being shot inside a car on the city’s south side.
Authorities say 25-year-old Thomas Xavier Clayton died Monday evening after he was shot several times.
Police Sgt. Don Bales said little is known about the suspect, only that he was possibly driving a red or maroon older-model Buick or Chevrolet Lumina four-door sedan with tinted windows.
Officers responding to a report of a shooting found Clayton suffering from several gunshot wounds. Bales said it’s not known if Clayton jumped out of the car, fell out or was thrown out, but he had no injuries other than the gunshot wounds.
Witnesses told police that the car that had carried Clayton headed south on Arkansas 45 after the shooting, then turned around and drove off to the north.
