Bowls scramble to fill SEC spots

The SEC’s official bowl bids will not come out until some time after the Bowl Championship Series conference call today, but the bowls with SEC tie-ins are already in full matchmaking mode.

Because things are so clear-cut at the top of the conference - Alabama and Florida are guaranteed BCS spots after their SEC title clash Saturday, and LSU is virtually assured of a Capital One Bowl berth - the other bowls are free to start making deals with their SEC partners.

The Cotton Bowl has first choice among SEC Western Division teams, and the Outback Bowl has first pick in the East following the Capital One Bowl’s selection. With LSU the only 9-3 team in the league, the Tigers ...
