Star Talk Sunspot variations and their effects on Earth

A warning: Never, under any circumstances, look at the sun with the naked eye! Doing this has caused many people permanent eye injury, and even blindness. The only way to study the sun is with a proper set of filters and a telescope designed for studying the sun. I say it again - using just your naked eye to look at the sun can blind you permanently.
