New-home sales, orders for durable goods jump
Tax credit seen aiding housing market in July

Darlene Chancellor of Bismarck shops for appliances Wednesday at Metro Builders Supply in Maumelle. Orders for appliances and other durable goods rose nationally in July.
Sales of new homes jumped more than forecast in July, and demand for long-lasting goods such as autos and computers climbed, adding to signs the economy is recovering from recession.
