And we're a better state for it

It's a new day in Arkansas. Payday lenders are officially out of our sight. Attorney General Dustin McDaniel made sure we noticed. On Aug. 11, he dispatched one of his assistants, Jim DePriest, to the site of what had been a First American Cash Advance store in Little Rock. There, DePriest announced that First American recently had closed its remaining 27 stores in Arkansas, thus closing the book on the payday-lending era in our state, where as many as 275 payday lenders once thrived.
