OBITUARIES

— David Edmond Garner

David Edmond Garner, 86, of Watts, Okla., died Aug. 20, 2009, at Siloam Springs Nursing & Rehab.

He was born Nov. 28, 1922, in Mc-Cloud, Okla., to James and Susie Carr Garner.

He had been a miner, a chicken farmer and had worked for Peterson's for seven years as a groundskeeper.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and served during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mildred; a son, Kenneth Garner; a daughter, Gloria Garner; two brothers, James Garner and Melvin Garner; and a great-granddaughter.

He is survived by two sons, David Garner of West Siloam Springs, Okla., and

Ronnie Garner and wife Teri of West Siloam Springs; four daughters, Barbara Harless of Watts, Okla., Beverley Holzkamper and husband Robert of Watts, Brenda Mitchell and husband Wayne of Watts, and Belinda Woodral and husband Bill of Gentry, Ark.; a brother, Daniel Garner and wife Rita of Houstonville, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; 38 greatgrandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at General Assembly of the First Born Church on Aug. 23, 2009, at 2 p.m., with David Garner officiating.

Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs, Ark., was in charge of cremation arrangements.

Edmond Victor "Vic" Guthrie

Edmond Victor "Vic" Guthrie, 91, died Aug. 9, 2009, in West Siloam Springs, Okla.

He was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Boxley, Ark., to George and Josie Sherfield Guthrie.

He worked as a carpenter in California for Timber Structures for several years putting up trusses for many schools and churches all over the state. He was a member of Pentecostal Holiness Church in Westville, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl, Raymond and Ralph; two sisters, Stella Bird and Ella Guthrie; a son, Wendell Guthrie; and a grandson, Ricky Guthrie.

He is survived by his wife, Dona Smith Guthrie of the home; a son, Doyle Guthrie and wife Glenita of Westville, two brothers, Homer Guthrie of Westville, and Dean Guthrie and wife Corine of Westville; two sisters, Myrtle Kindle and husband Walter of Westville, and Frankie Williams and husband Forrest of Westville; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Aug. 12, 2009, at Roberts Chapel with Brothers Navil Vaughn and Audie Vaughn officiating.

Interment was at Westville City Cemetery.

Roberts Funeral Home in Westville was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Richard Starkey

Clarence Richard Starkey, 70, of Siloam Springs, Ark., died Aug. 18, 2009, at Siloam Springs Nursing and Rehab Center.

He was born on Nov. 16, 1938, in Higbee, Mo., to Elmer and Mary Marjorie Starkey.

He married Letha Bergman on Aug. 29, 1959, in Raymond, Ill.

He was an insurance adjuster for several companies including Economy Casualty Insurance and Pekin Insurance Company.

He enjoyed playing basketball and cards and was a member of the Jehovah Witness Church.

He is survived by his wife of the home; his mother, of East Alton, Ill.; three sons, Randy Starkey of Hettick, Ill., Rick Starkey of Springtown, Texas, and Ramsey Starkey of Borger, Texas; a sister, Barbara Starkey of East Alton; and eight grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Kingdom Hall in Wood River, Ill., on Aug. 29, 2009, at 1 p.m.

Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Siloam Springs in charge of cremation arrangements.
