Cleanup campaign celebrates 40 years

Volunteers sought to help beautify state in seven-week annual program

In 1969, Carl Garner decided he couldn't take the massive amount of litter on the shore of Greers Ferry Lake anymore. So the resident engineer for the Army Corps of Engineer organized a group of residents to pick up trash.
