Local woman with muscular dystrophy snags state award

Rachel Mauldin, 26, stands in front of Washington Regional Medical Center, where she works, on Friday. She won the Robert Ross Personal Achievement Award from the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The award honors people who do a lot of community work to combat the disease.
Rachel Mauldin wasn't surprised at all to find out she had been diagnosed with muscular dystrophy. After all, the disease had been in her family for years when the news finally came.
