ALL THUMBS

Appearing each Saturday, "All Thumbs" is The Benton County Daily Record's take on the people, events and issues deserving a "thumbs up" for a noteworthy accomplishment or good deed or a "thumbs down" for magnificent failure or just general stupidity. Thumbs up to evidence that the Northwest Arkansas Regional Airport is recovering from the recession. Through the first five months of 2009, the number of people boarding or disembarking flights at XNA was down 16 percent from the same period one year earlier; most other airports nationwide suffered similar drops in business. But for the Highfill airport, the months of June and July were actually busier than they were in 2008. That's an encouraging sign not just for the airport, but for our entire region.
