Waiting and wondering : Some local school districts are unsure whether they'll actually receive recently discovered county tax collections or if the money will instead be forwarded to the state.

When the Benton County Tax Collector's Office announced earlier this week it discovered $1.4 million in tax collections from 2006 and 2007 that have still not been paid out to cities, school districts and other entities, a few questions immediately surfaced. First, how is it possible to lose $1.4 million in the shuffle of everyday business? And second, what do school districts, cities and others plan to do when they finally receive their money? Because, with a decision expected in coming weeks by the Benton County Court, these funds will almost assuredly be coming their way.
