Grime of the century dissolved at Capitol

House chamber gleams after 100 years

The brown grime came off the columns in clumps to reveal delicate white and ocher patterns underneath. As workers applied gold leaf to the column crowns of the centuryold chamber of the Arkansas House of Representatives this summer, it began to resemble a much younger version of itself, one from early days of the past century.
