Taiwan typhoon survivors rescued over raging river

A survivor stands Thursday in front of a destroyed house in Liugui, a village flooded over the weekend by Typhoon Morakot in southern Taiwan.

Terrified survivors of Typhoon Morakot were pulled to safety along cables slung across a raging river as criticism mounted Thursday over Taiwan's response to the flash floods that five days earlier killed dozens of villagers.
