Teachers get dramatic

Seminar demonstrates how to incorporate performing arts into the classroom

Melanie Layne, co-leader for the integrating visual art and tableau session for the Walton Arts Center's Arts With Education Institute, encourages a group of local educators to act out the feelings of the wolf from "Peter and the Wolf" Thursday in the Center's Starr Theater. The program worked with teachers to create ways to integrate arts into core curriculum classes.

Within the last year, there has been a lot of talk from Fayetteville School District officials about using technology as a tool to keep children engaged at school. During the annual Arts With Education Institute last week at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, area teachers learned how drama and the performing arts could be used as an instructional tool.
