Posted: August 8, 2009 at 4:37 a.m.
After helping launch a floating gangway from a truck, North American Marine employee Daniel Lawrence walked the gangway to a new encapsulated boat dock under construction near the Arkansas Highway 12 Bridge on Friday. According to federal lay, all extruded polystyrene boat docks on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Lakes in the nation must be of the encapsulated variety by 2013 to prevent further pollution.
Dock owners on Beaver Lake still have time to remove old extruded polystyrene - commonly called Styrofoam - flotation and replace it with encapsulated floatation, said U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Park Ranger Alan Bland.
