Heavy state-line traffic could start taking its toll

The Highway Department is considering building the Bella Vista bypass as a toll road if government funds are not granted.

Joe Sobleskie of New York, national traffic and revenue program manager for Jacobs Engineering Group Inc.; and Virginia Porta of Little Rock, planning engineer for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department, explained the design of the proposed Bella Vista tolls to Cathy Luck of Bella Vista on Wednesday during a public-involvement meeting to discuss the proposed implementation of a toll facility for the Bella Vista bypass.

Building the 15-mile Bella Vista bypass as a toll road is better than doing nothing. That was one idea presented at a hearing held by the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department on Wednesday at Riordan Hall.
