Burglaries net 25-year sentence

— A Fort Smith man was sentenced to 25 years in prison on Monday in connection with a string of residential burglaries in Rogers.

Randy Meyer, 51, pleaded guilty to seven counts of residential burglary, a class B felony, and one count of theft of property, a class B felony. He pleaded guilty under a plea agreement attorney William Griggs reached with Deputy Prosecutor Stephanie McLemore.

Meyer was arrested Feb. 20. Rogers police were investigating a string of burglaries between July 13, 2008, and Oct. 15, 2008. Fourteen reports of residentialburglary during that time frame were similar with the crimes occurring during the daytime hours, and the doors were either pried opened or kicked opened, according to court documents.

Police in Bentonville, Fayetteville, Tontitown, Centerton, Springdale and Fayetteville were also investigating similar crimes.

Authorities were able to obtain information that led to Teddy Graham, who was arrested. He admitted to breaking into several houses in Rogers and claimed Meyer had also broken into some houses.

Police also arrested three other people in connection withthe crimes. The common items taken in the crimes were flatscreen televisions, jewelry and furniture, according to court documents.

Circuit Judge Robin Green accepted the plea agreement and Meyer's guilty plea.

Meyer was sentenced to 20 years in prison on one count of residential burglary and five years in prison, along with a 15-year suspended sentence, for another residential-burglary count. The sentences will be served consecutively.

Meyer received 20-year suspended sentences for each of the six remaining counts.

He must pay $1,170 in courtassociated costs, along with $47,751.33 in victim restitution.

Graham, 49, was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to residential-burglary charges.
