SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. Quality Road, the early favorite to win the Kentucky Derby before being sidelined by a hoof injury, set a track record in winning the $150,000 Amsterdam Stakes for 3-year-olds by 2 1/4 lengths at Saratoga Race Course on Monday.
The final time of 1:13.45 eclipsed a course record for the distance, previously 1:14.40 held by Topsider since 1979.
The Todd Pletcher-trained Quality Road earned $90,000 for owner breeder Edward P. Evans and added the Amsterdam to early season victories in the Fountain of Youth Stakes and Florida Derby.
Quality Road paid $3.50, $2.40 and $2.20 after his fourth win from five career starts. Capt. Candyman Can returned $3.90 and $3.20 and Captain Cherokee paid $5.40.
