The Arkansas Historic Preservation Commission will host three historic tours in Northwest Arkansas this fall.

The first is planned in Waldron on Saturday. Guests will tour the Waldron Commerical Historic District beginning at Memorial Hall, 96 S. Main St. The tour will focus on the commercial development of Waldron from early settlements through the arrival of the railroads to the economic diversification of the 1950s. Buildings include many early 20th century commercial structures ranging in style from Italianate to Art Deco.

A tour of the Queen Anne House in the May-Lecta-Sweet Historic District in Fort Smith is set for Sept. 12. The residential district typifies suburban development in the city from 1890 to 1958. Architectural styles in the neighborhood include Queen Anne, various Period Revivals, Neoclassical, Craftsman and Minimal Traditional. The tour group will meet behind the Central Presbyterian Church located at 2901 Rogers Ave.

The final tour, slated for Oct. 24, will begin at Carnall Hall on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville and will include several historic buildings on campus. The tour will focus on the history of the UA as well as the architecture of campus buildings featured on the National Register. Tour stops include Old Main, Vol Walker Hall, the Chemistry Building and the Chi Omega Greek Theater.

All tours begin at 11 a.m.
