Newspaper revises access to Web content

Posted: August 4, 2009 at 6:27 a.m.

— NWAnews.com, the Web site for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette's Northwest edition and its sister papers, will undergo changes Wednesday for readers who do not subscribe to the newspapers.

Anyone who subscribes to any of the daily newspapers involved in the site - the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the Northwest Arkansas Times and the Benton County Daily Record - will receive free access to the content on NWAnews.com by going through a one-time registration process on the site.

Any print edition subscriber who is registered to read ArkansasOnline, the Democrat-Gazette's Web site for its central Arkansas and statewide editions, automatically will be registered for NWAnews.com and can log in at either site.

Those who do not subscribe to a print edition can choose an online-only subscription for $5.95 per month. The online-only subscription covers access to both of the Democrat-Gazette's Web sites.

Although NWAnews.com is changing to a subscription-based site, some content will continue to be available free to all site visitors, such as blogs, breaking news and some special coverage of events.

The subscription approach also applies to original newspaper content of coverage of the Arkansas Razorbacks at wholehogsports.com, but the popular Slophouse Blog will be available to all visitors at no charge. Other blogs, such as the TunedIn arts and the entertainment blog, will remain free.

Print subscribers and nonsubscribers who want to register for an account may visit nwanews.com/register. Readers may also call (800) 482-1121 for assistance in setting up online access.

Starting Wednesday, only those registered customers who have either a paid print edition subscription or a paid onlinesubscription will be able to access the print edition content on the Web.

Content for the nine weekly publications published by Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Inc. in Northwest Arkansas will continue to be available free online. Those newspapers are The Weekly Vista in Bella Vista, the Decatur Herald, the Gentry Courier-Journal, the Gravette News Herald, the Rogers Hometown News, the Siloam Springs Herald-Leader, the Times of Northeast Benton County in Pea Ridge, the White River Valley News in Elkins and Noticias Libres, a Spanish-language newspaper serving the region.
