— Local educators selected for statewide forum

Donna Mitchell and Michael Warren are two of 48 Arkansas teachers selected to participate in the 15th Arkansas Leadership Academy Teacher Institute. Both are teachers at Prairie Grove High School.

The first session of the forum was held at the Lake Point ConferenceCenter in Russellville. Sessions 3-4 will be held at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute in Morrilton. The focus is building a statewide learning community for Arkansas public school teachers.

This professional development and leadership opportunity will provide sustained support to improve individual classroom teaching and learning practices that will ultimately result in highteacher performance, and student improvement.

UA professor to be inducted in 2009 class of society fellows

The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers has named Yanbin Li to its 2009 class of ASABE Fellows. Li is one of 15 individuals who were inducted in a ceremony held June 23 duringthe ASABE Annual International Meeting in Reno, Nev.

A professor of biological and agricultural engineering at the University of Arkansas, Li was selected in honor of his contributions in advancing biosensor technology for the detection of bacteria and viruses with novel concepts and design in research and commercialization.

A 21-year member of ASABE, Liis currently serving as chairman of the society's biological engineering division. He initiated the BE-23 Biosensors committee and served as its first chairman. He has provided leadership to various committees and councils and is currently serving as editor of the Biological Engineering Journal and associate editor for Transactions of the ASABE and Applied Engineering in Agriculture.
