FAYETTEVILLE MANA donates to Boys and Girls Club
The MANA Charitable Foundation announced a gift on July 23 of 100 vouchers for sports physicals, valued at $11,000, to the Donald W. Reynolds Boys and Girls Club in Fayetteville. Sports physicals are required for children ages 7-13 to participate in organized sports at the Boys and Girls Club.
In 2008, 565 children participated in the tackle football program at the boys and Girls Club in Fayetteville. Pagnozzi Charities provides scholarships to 20 percent of the children who were not able to pay. If the parent cannot afford the visit to the doctor, it often prevents the child from participating in the sport. The American Academy of Family Practice and the American Academy of Pediatrics recommend a comprehensive pre-participation exam for every child and adolescent that has an opportunity to participate in sports and regular physical activity.
The voucher from the MANA Charitable Foundation will cover a comprehensive pre-participation exam by a physician according to the American Academy of Pediatrics guidelines. Parents will have a choice between nine MANA clinic locations including MediServe Walk-In Clinics, FirstCare Family Doctors and Northwest Arkansas Pediatric Clinic locations.

Friday's participates
in outreach program
Thousands of people, including hospital patients, children living in foster care facilities, nursing home residents and many others, received a keepsake Be Happy Mug filled with bright flowers compliments of Teleflora and its Arkansas unit, Friday's Flowers and Gifts, as part of the 2009 Make Someone Smile Week.
The program ran from July 19-25 and is a coordinated effort spearheaded by local Teleflora member florists who volunteer their time to create and deliver bouquets made from Teleflora's signature Be Happy Mugs.
Teleflora donated more than 40,000 of its keepsake Be Happy Mugs for the project. Florists worked with local wholesalers and growers to secure flower donations.
Friday's Flowers and Gifts in Fayetteville delivered to the Fayetteville City Hospital and Peace at Home Family Shelter.

Local students attend
art camp at institute
Thirty-three select students from 32 Arkansas high schools recently spent a week at the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute atop Petit Jean Mountain in central Arkansas for Envision U 2009. Four of these students attend Washington County schools: Nick Busbee of West Fork High School, Dee Moore of M.O. Ramay Junior High School in Fayetteville, Kat Scantling of Elkins High School and Lola Sholley of Har-Ber High School in Springdale. The goal of this summer arts camp is for each student to experience and reflect on five common art disciplines: visual art, literary art, music, dance and theater.
The students chose three courses to take during the week - one at the intensive level and the other two at the exploratory level. Students are in intensivelevel classes for a significant amount of time during the week. The goal of these classes is for students to have an intense learning and creative experience with the medium. Exploratory classes are much shorter classes designed to introduce students to new and different art media and give them a chance to experiment with creating in a variety of art forms.
On the final day of the camp, students shared what they learned in their intensive-level classes at a culminating performance July 25 at the Rockefeller Institute.
Envision U is open to all Arkansas high school students currently enrolled in ninth, 10th or 11th grades and is free to the students selected to attend. The camp began in 2007 and is planned to be offered annually as long as funding is available. To learn more about Envision U, visit the "Arts" page at www.uawri.org and then click on the "Envision U" link.
