BENTONVILLE -- Susan Anglin, Benton County justice of the peace for District 9, announced Saturday she will run for a fourth term in office.

Anglin, 62, a Republican, is a dairy and beef farmer. She has represented District 9 since 2013. The district includes part of Centerton and southwestern Bentonville. The filing period for the May 22 party primary election begins Feb. 22 and ends March 1. Justices of the peace serve two-year terms.

Anglin said the biggest challenge facing the Quorum Court is the proposed courts building. The county has been discussing a new building to house the county's circuit courts and related offices for several years. Anglin said she is optimistic the project can be brought to a successful conclusion.

"We've been through a lot of different phases, lots of debate," she said. "Now we're down to a really hard thing, how to pay for it. But I'm excited that we're further down the road than we've been. We all agree it's needed. It's just a question of how do we pay for it."

Anglin said she's undecided on the funding options the Quorum Court has considered. The justices of the peace have heard presentations on paying for the $25 million building through a temporary sales tax or through a bond issue paid for by existing county revenues, which will require cuts in the county budget.

"I'm still gathering information," she said. "I know that the people I've talked to when you explain to them that we could have a sales tax and it would have a sunset provision, they seem to like that. But I don't know that the voters would approve any tax increase."

Anglin said as a justice of the peace she receives calls about county roads, the Sheriff's Office, fire and ambulance service, and other county issues. She said she tries to consider the needs of all of her constituents when she votes on any question before the Quorum Court.

"Every issue we're voting on has an impact on our citizens," she said

Anglin is a Benton County native. She and her husband, Ryan Anglin, have two sons. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University for Arkansas for Medical Science in Little Rock and is a registered nurse.
