Police beat

Video shows theft of 2 rifles at store

Two AR-15-style rifles were stolen from a sporting goods store in west Little Rock late Sunday night, police said.

Authorities said that the burglar used some kind of cutting or prying tool to enter the rear door of Academy Sports at 11400 W. Markham St., according to a police report. It happened about 11:30 p.m.

Security footage shows the burglar entering the sales floor, heading directly to the gun counter and removing from the rack two AR-15-style rifles, police said.

NLR police step up patrols near school

North Little Rock police have increased their presence in neighborhoods near North Little Rock High School after the school district received its second threat via social media in four days, authorities said.

The district is also considering random student searches, Superintendent Kelley Rodgers said.

The threat, posted on Snapchat, referenced a message the district's Facebook page received Friday that targeted North Little Rock High as well as "the president," North Little Rock police spokesman Amy Cooper said.

Police arrested a 17-year-old who faces charges of communicating a false alarm, according to a police report.

Rodgers said he believed the Snapchat post was a "copycat" threat. Friday's threat, which is still under investigation, was not made by a district student, he said.

Friday's post was at least the 10th threat to an Arkansas school that authorities have investigated after Wednesday's shooting at a Florida school, where 17 people died.

Eight people, mostly minors, have been arrested because of the investigations.

Man reports knife used in LR robbery

A robber armed with a knife stole a man's cash and cellphone outside a southwest Little Rock pharmacy on Friday morning, police said.

The 44-year-old victim told officers he was at a Walgreens, 5917 Baseline Road, 7:30 a.m. when the assailant held him up at knifepoint.

The robber drove off with the man's phone and $80 in a green, four-door sedan, according to police.

Van, purse stolen outside nightclub

A woman was hit in the head by an attacker who stole her van and purse outside a Little Rock nightclub early Sunday, she told police.

The 34-year-old victim told officers she left Club Trois, 4314 Asher Ave., about 3:30 a.m. and had pulled over in a parking lot just west of the club, a police report said.

She said she finished talking to a friend when someone walked up and "jerked" open the door to her vehicle and then hit her in the head with an unknown object. The attacker then told her to give him the keys or he would kill her, the report states.

The robber drove off in the victim's 2002 Chrysler Pacifica, which contained her purse, ID and personal documents.
