Brazen thief dashes off with $8,600 ring

A ring worth nearly $8,600 was stolen from a North Little Rock jewelry store, police say.

According to a report from the city's Police Department, officers responded shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday to the Zales Outlet* inside McCain Plaza, 4000 McCain Blvd.

A store employee said a man who called himself "Johnny" had entered the business and wanted to see a ring that cost about $1,200. He also reportedly picked out a watch to see, which she placed on the counter.

He chose a white-gold ring with a 6-carat diamond valued of $8,599.99, and the worker put it on her finger to show him, the report states. She told police she had "a bad feeling" about him because of the ring's price and how fast he was picking items out.

After handing the ring over for him to see, the thief said "I'm taking it," grabbing the watch and fleeing the store, according to the report.

The watch was listed as costing $543.75.

Little Rock police are investigating burglaries at two River Market District businesses, reports show.

Owners at Iriana's Pizza, 201 E. Markham St., told officers around 6:45 a.m. Tuesday that about $200 had been stolen from the register overnight. Police noted that the register was broken, as was the front door.

Tuesday afternoon, the owner at Rev Room, 300 President Clinton Ave., flagged down an officer and told him that someone had thrown a rock through a glass patio door on the north side of the building, according to another report.

Eight to 10 bottles of liquor valued at about $150 total were taken, the owner said.

Facing gun, clerk gives up store cash

A Little Rock convenience store was held up at gunpoint Tuesday evening, an employee told police.

Two people with their faces covered entered Dollar Plus Market, 9023 Geyer Springs Road, shortly after 8 p.m., according to a report from the Police Department.

One robber pointed a black, semi-automatic handgun at the clerk, the report states.

"Hey man, don't move," the gunman reportedly told him. "Get on the floor!"

The employee said he lay facedown behind the counter while the other robber tried to open the register. When that person couldn't open it, he demanded the 37-year-old employee stand up and open it.

When he did, the robber took the cash, the clerk said. The report listed between $400 and $500 as being stolen.

"Don't do anything," the other robber was reported as saying as the pair walked toward the door. They they ran south on Geyer Springs Road, according to the report.

Both robbers were described as black, with the gunman listed as 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing 200 pounds and having a full beard. The other robber was described as 6 feet 2 inches tall and about 190 pounds.
