Foodies flock to Main Street for Arkansas Cornbread Festival

Though the lines were long, visitors patiently waited their turns to taste cornbread from dozens of chefs who competed in the Oct. 21 Arkansas Cornbread Festival.

In its seventh year, the event attracted thousands of foodies who walked the blocks of 1300 to 1600 Main Street to sample cornbread.

Central Arkansas Master Naturalists won first place, amateur division, for their cornbread, which they called Tri-Corn CAMNbread, and the People's Choice award for their amateur side dish, a vegetarian black bean chili.

First place, professional cornbread, and People's Choice award for professional side dish, went to The Root.

A highlight of the event was the trio of Jeremy Rodgers, Bryan Marcus and Cassie Crane, who road around the event seated on a motorized couch. Marcus built the couch, which he calls Couch on the Run.

Proceeds support the SoMa neighborhood as well as the Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance.
