Sounds in the Stacks

UCA chorus

Four student conductors will be on the podium for a concert by the University of Central Arkansas University Chorus, 7:30 p.m. today in the Recital Hall, Snow Fine Arts Center, UCA, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway. The program includes four pieces by Arkansas native Andrea Ramsey and, with the Voices of Central Arkansas High School Choir, Daniel Elder's "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star," "Sure on This Shining Night" by Morten Lauridsen, Dolly Parton's "Light of a Clear Blue Morning" and "Shout Glory" by Byron Smith. Christmas lighting

El Dorado's annual Downtown Holiday Lighting Ceremony, 5-7 p.m. today, in the Union Square District, kicks off the "El Dorado Spectacular!" schedule of seasonal events. The ceremony will feature a DJ, performances by local dance schools, Christmas songs, a sneak peek from the South Arkansas Arts Center's Hollywood and Pine Holiday Revue and the announcement of the grand marshals for the El Dorado Christmas Parade. A local celebrity flips the lighting switch at 6:10 p.m. The ceremony also marks the start of free rides on a horse-drawn carriage and the PJ's Express Holiday Train, through Sunday which will continue, at a cost, Friday-Saturday throughout the end of the year.

Retail shops will offer Christmas displays and decor, specials and unique gifts during El Dorado's Downtown Holiday Open House, 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Main Street will also be on the square during the day offering free hot dogs and drinks to shoppers. Santa will hand out cookies and toys at The Spot on North Washington Avenue.

OBU opera

Ouachita Baptist University's division of music and department of theater arts will stage Michael Ching's contemporary comic opera Speed Dating Tonight!, involving a group of strangers (including an origami artist, a budding country singer, a cat lover and a woman who is certain she has been abducted by aliens) at a speed dating event, 7:30 p.m. today-Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Jones Performing Arts Center at OBU, 410 Ouachita St., Arkadelphia. Quintet of one-acts

Northark Drama will stage All in the Timing, a collection of five one-act plays by David Ives detailing happenings in apparently dissimilar worlds, 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday at the Lyric Theater, 113 W. Benefit art show

Galaxy Furniture, 304 Main St., North Little Rock, is hosting "Texture," an art show of works by clients of United Cerebral Palsy of Arkansas to benefit the organization, 5-8 p.m. Friday. Cosplay Con

UALR singers

The UALR Community Chorus, with the adult and children's choirs of Second Presbyterian Church; the Praeclara Vocal Company; soloists Shannon Rookey, soprano, and Luke Angelo, baritone; and an orchestra, will perform John Rutter's Mass of the Children, 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the church, 600 Pleasant Valley Drive, Little Rock.
