‘‘POP’’ WITH A PURPOSE

Easter Seals soiree a fundraising blast

Some 200 people, including members and guests of the Easter Seals Arkansas Guardians board, hit the river-facing deck of the Little Rock Marriott's Grand Ballroom terrace for one of the best views of the Independence Day fireworks display.

The event was made even better when Ryan MacLeod took a knee and proposed to his girlfriend, Laura Wagner, on the deck when the fireworks started. She accepted (insert cute emoji here).

Kathryn Norton, Easter Seals' development officer, said this year's Fireworks Frenzy, the third for the nonprofit, raised about $8,000. Easter Seals' partnership with the hotel is likely to continue, she said. The Easter Seals Guardians board is made up of young professionals "whose goal is to support Easter Seals Arkansas in its mission to help children and adults with disabilities achieve independence," Norton said. The goal is to find and develop leaders to serve on the Easter Seals Arkansas Board of Directors.

Fireworks Frenzy seems an appropriate recruitment tool.

"Not only do you see the downtown fireworks but you can see a lot of the fireworks of the panoramic view from the rooftop/terrace of the Marriott," Norton added.

Inside, a disc jockey provided music. Snacks, children's activities and two cash bars also fueled the fun.
