Connie Wilkerson

Where I live: I live on 14 acres just outside the western Little Rock city limits with George, my wonderful husband of almost 33 years.

Occupation: I am a wife, mother of three, quilter, chicken farmer, "clean" food cook and part-time Fit Factory gym rat.

My favorite space is: my sewing room. It has a cutting table, drawers to hold thread, a built-in ironing board and counters with plenty of plug-ins to hold all the sewing machines. It also has tons of cabinet space to hold fabric, pattern books and various quilting and sewing notions. I even found cute little cabinet pulls that are in the shape of spools of thread and scissors.

Why? I love to quilt and in this room there is a connection to all of the quilters of my past. My two grandmothers were quilters as well as my mom's two sisters. I love to create art quilts as well as baby quilts and more traditional throw and bed-size quilts. I also love this space because I totally lose track of time. It is a place that I can totally immerse myself in creativity.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: make it much larger to accommodate my long-arm quilting machine, which is currently housed in one of my boy's bedrooms. I'd also lose the laundry equipment. There is certainly no place for it in my personal space. Who needs to do laundry anyway?
