Where I live: Coolwood neighborhood of Little Rock

Occupation: Photography instructor and department head at the Arkansas Arts Center's Museum School

My favorite space is: My vestibulo (Spanish for "foyer/vestibule").

Why? It presents a very cozy and welcoming space as you walk in from outside (it's very woody and cool, like the neighborhood). It is a unique and creative element of a big home remodeling project I undertook last year. I completely gutted this part of my home and rebuilt it, redesigning it and adding unique touches as I went along. This was my first run at construction/design so I feared I might mess something up aesthetically. But I managed not to; it looks great! The colors and textures give it a very warm and woody feel. My tastes tend to have a Latin American influence since I've traveled quite a bit through Central and South America and lived in Peru for a year (between 2012-2013). On my most recent photo trip to Peru, I traveled to mountainous areas in some of the most spectacularly beautiful coffee country I'd ever seen. When I returned, it was particularly soothing to come home and walk into this space.

If I could make one change to improve this space, I would: Have more Peruvian art and other elements of my Peru experience -- maybe replace the plant with aji amarillo peppers or a coffee tree.
